Carol
Benson has played for outstanding orchestras across the US as well as
abroad. She was a member of the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Louisville
Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Chamber Orch. She was invited to tour
Europe with Antal Dorati and the Detroit Sym, and America with the
Stockholm Phil. Carol was Concertmistress of the Monterey Chamber
Orchestra and the New Mexico Chamber Orchestra.
She has soloed as vocalist or violinist with a variety of orchestras and
sang or played at Aspen, Grand Tetons, OR Coast and other festivals .
She collaborated on the CD “ A Day Like This” with songwriter Frank
Schultz.
After a masters with the Univ. of Louisville School of Music, Carol
taught voice full time at the University of North Iowa and violin at U
of L and U of KY. She taught public school music for a time but prefers
her private studio.
In the 80’s Carol ‘s family cofounded the Greenspring Coffee House of
Pittsburgh for peace education purposes and performed in the in house
band, drawing on experiences in Sweden and Nova Scotia. Currently she
calls herself a café fiddler, and in addition to her teaching and
symphony work, plays everything from Irish jigs to Spanish ballads to
Josh Groban, to Schubert, for clubs, restaurants, retirement centers and
parties.
