Alana studied piano 15 years as a
child, learning classical music, playing in competitions and her own
recital and studied a summer at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas
City, Mo. She studied classical harp six years as an adult with
Linda Booth in Charlotte, NC, a former teacher in the harp
department at Univ. of Texas. She studied Suzuki harp in Washington
state one year, and became a Certified Music Practitioner in the
MHTP program, playing in hospitals, nursing homes, and a conscious
dying center in the mountains of North Carolina. She also developed
a presentation called "Musical Tales for the Inner Being" as a harp
storyteller. Alana has attended several schools of healing,
participated with Dr. Ron Price formerly of "Healing Harps", and
created a work "Healing Touch of Music', traveling 15 years and
teaching in Europe and the US and speaking in conferences, nursing
school, and colleges. She produced a book and two videos documenting
her work, and 2 harp CD recordings.
Currently Alana teaches a 6 week group course "Celtic Harp I" in
the Fall and Spring semesters for UNM Continuing Education, at the
Apple Mountain Music store. This is an introduction class for
the harp, exploring tuning, posture, hand position, simple music,
and some improvisational playing. For private lessons she enjoys
work with students who may be physically challenged as well as those
who have some knowledge of music. She believes simple music played
well is very powerful. In her life long experience with music
Alana has a passion for the harp and loves teaching!
